Why Party City Closed—And Why Party Fair Is Still Going Strong

If you've recently heard the news about Party City closing some of its stores, you might be wondering what that means for your party supply needs. Let’s clear the air: Party Fair is not Party City – and we are still open and here to serve your celebrations!

What Happened to Party City?

Party City, a national party supply chain, filed for bankruptcy in early 2023 due to a mix of challenges: shifting consumer habits, increased competition from online retailers, rising inflation, and supply chain issues that impacted their ability to stock shelves. This resulted in the closure of many stores across the country.

Some more reasons behind Party City's closure include post-pandemic shifts in shopping patterns, rising costs and supply chain disruptions, increased online shopping preferences, and a heavy debt load due to private equity firms. 

It’s always tough to see a major retailer go through hard times, especially one that played a role in so many people’s celebrations. But this situation has also created confusion – and that’s where we come in.

Who We Are: Party Fair

Party Fair is a completely separate company from Party City. We are proud to be a locally owned and operated party supply store, committed to delivering personal service, competitive prices, and a wide selection of party goods, decorations, balloons, tableware, and more.

We’ve been part of your birthdays, weddings, graduations, holidays, and everything in between for more than 40 years – and we’re not going anywhere.

However, we must note that Amscan, one of Party City's main distributors, also went out of business with the chain. Amscan supplied most of our goods, so we're currently trying to find new distributors for our products. Our shelves may be a bit lighter than usual during our transition, but rest assured, we're still open and here for you!
